What is Old Major?
Old Major is an eclectic events space and bar, specializing in tropical cocktails and small plates. We were named Best Neighborhood Bar in 2019 by Baltimore Magazine and have been featured in several publications, including The Baltimore Sun (“Hidden Gems”) and Thrillist (“Best Bars in Baltimore”) to name a couple.
Our name comes from George Orwell’s book, Animal Farm.
What is Inside Old Major?
Our building features a full bar, dining room, patio and two upstairs event spaces. Visit our home page or our Instagram (@OldMajorBmore) for more images of the interior.
Is Old Major Involved in the Community?
We pride ourselves on giving back to our Southwest Baltimore community and hold a free food giveaway on Thursdays (1:30-2:30 p.m.), and are a weekly sponsor of My Fathers Plan, a local youth-based nonprofit that cleans neighborhood streets. To attend the giveaway, just show up and bring your own bag or box.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Old Major regularly held fundraisers and other events for non-profit organizations and a number of free, informative and fun events for the community.
What Does Old Major Serve?
Old Major cocktail and food menus are tropical-inspired. We have a full bar with premium spirits and wines, along with local Maryland and Baltimore-based spirits, craft beer, meads and ciders. Vegan food options and spirit-free drink options are always available. Our menus are located in the top menu or on our homepage. Takeout is an option for food and certain beverages.
When is Old Major Open?
Old Major is open based on our event calendar, which is available on this website, Instagram and Facebook. If you are interested in visiting, we recommend that you check our website, Google or our social media for updates on our status.
Any Other Useful Information About Old Major?
Old Major has a very small, dedicated team. We prefer a low-key, calm, respectful ambiance and vibe and enjoy seeing our guests visit us with their friends or on date nights. We love good conversation, music, art, literature and film! If these are things that interest you, be sure to keep an eye out for our future events.
Like most establishments, Old Major had to pivot and adapt its operations in response to the global pandemic in a way that makes the best sense for our team. A few things to keep in mind, if you choose to dine with us: (1) We do not accept cash payments (cash is perfectly fine for tipping, however); (2) We use QR codes that will allow you to order and pay from the table (we do not keep paper menus); and (3) You must ring the doorbell for entry, and we will check your ID. We thank you in advance for reviewing and following our house procedures.
